PIGEON POST

A really grey and overcast day, so today's outing was to the tea rooms of our First World War museum where the cakes are among the best in town. Each booth is full of memorabilia and ours was mostly devoted to animals in wartime, including the story of Cher Ami, a pigeon who was awarded the Croix de Guerre for saving the lives of 194 US soldiers in northern France. It's a revelation how incredibly important the pigeons were to communications in the battlefields.
