While on my runs

Sounding the alarm

Late this afternoon I set out to walk around a circuit which takes about a half hour and while mostly on the roads, a track joins Rimutaka Place to Huia Road. The second extra was from before the track. A parera dominant hybrid duck resting in the sun with he eight ducklings.

The adult masked lapwing featured in my blip, was sounding the alarm with great intensity. Guessing that there may be a nest near the path, I chose to try for a photo of the alarm giver, and then leave. Just after I got the photo I wanted, the reason for alarm was revealed. As shown in the first extra, a small chick (probably about a week old) was running between the two parents. The one photo of the parents and the chick was unfocussed.
