Work, work, work

When your day’s entertainment is going to the post office counter at Shopper’s Drug Mart, you know that you are not doing something right. But, today at least, it was because I had planned to do my New Zealand work in one go. I’d stamped my feet and mentioned how the days of freebies and not counting the hours were over – so I put it into practice today. I spent seven hours on applications for best practice certification. Seven hours of my life I will never get back. Mind you, the applications were understandable this time, which made it easier. Unfortunately, it was because they had been written with the help of ChatGTP; this made it easier for me to be critical though. Sometimes, when someone’s English might be the problem, you are gentle and understanding. If they are being a lazy prick and using artificial intelligence to hoodwink you, I have little compunction in providing terse comments like “where is your evidence for this?” or “what exactly does this mean?” Even if they use ChatGPT to provide the answer, at least they will have to put a little more effort in. The organisation I am critiquing is looing for 7-star certification. I recommended 3-stars… Oooh, it felt good. Of course, they’ll keep on coming back until it is good enough, but that is there prerogative. Mine is to charge seven hours for the seven hours’ work.
