Quod oculus meus videt

Autumn Fall

I woke up to a post on the local estate Facebook Group to advise that there had been a water main burst pipe overnight.  Turning on the tap confirmed that pressure was low, so I filled the kettle in case we were without water for a while.

I was intending to go to the swimming pool so went via the location of the burst to find the main road closed and a fire engine in attendance.  It was still dark and it was only later, when I was heading home, that the extent of the flooding in the local playing fields and adjacent homes could be seen. The playing fields were due to stage a Firework display tomorrow, but it was soon being reported that they would have to cancel the event because of the flooding that had occurred.

There seem to be a number of burst pipes over the last few days and there is a suggestion that they may be related, as the water company tries to divert and balance flows on their network to maintain supplies to homes and businesses.  We haven't had any more problems, despite the burst, as our estate is supplied from at least two different mains pipes.
