From Rats to Rockets
TUESDAY
I started my day early with a drive from Halifax town centre to Lindley in Huddersfield where Prue had a 9:30 appointment. The bumper-to-bumper West Yorkshire rush hour was a stark reminder of why I don’t miss those long, fume-filled commutes!
I walked a few laps of Greenhead Park - one of my lunchtime escapes when I worked in the town - and stopped for a coffee at the Conservatory café. Considering the financial situation of Kirklees Council, the park was surprisingly well-kept, but unfortunately, the experience was spoiled by the sight of several brown rats scurrying around the ornamental lake and completely unfazed by the presence of humans. They are encouraged by misguided folk overfeeding the ducks and leaving breadcrumbs on the paths. I have reported the issue to Kirklees Council due to the risk of leptospirosis to young children and toddlers who frequent the area.
Later, I walked through the busy town centre and we had lunch at Lost Property Café, which lived up to its excellent reputation!
By early evening, I was back home in North Wales, just in time to head out again to Denbigh Castle for a fantastic firework display which is an annual event organized by the Rotary Club. I think most of the townsfolk turned out to see the amazing display.
