Lake Michigan sand dunes
Saturday
Since Liam’s house is quite small, with only one small bathroom, we had decided to stay at a hotel in town, quite close to their house. When we woke up this morning there were a couple of WhatsApp messages from Laura. One of her young refugee clients is heavily pregnant and due in about a week. So about 12.30 am she had received a call from her to say she was having contractions and was on her way to the hospital. So Laura drove to the hospital, only to discover after a while it was a false alarm! The hospital is in the adjacent town to where they live, so quite a bit of driving was involved, and it was gone 3 am before she got back. So, not surprisingly we had a late start this morning! They had decided to take us to the town of Sheboygan on Lake Michigan for the day, about a 45:minute drive to the east. First stop was a donut shop they had heard about, which was supposed to be really good. They soon sell out, so Laura had ordered some ahead, and they were waiting for us, and they didn’t disappoint! Then we went to do a tour and tasting at Three Sheeps Brewing, a well known local brewery. After that we drove to Koehler Andrae State Park on the lake, where the photos in my collage were taken, a beautiful natural area of sand dunes and a long sandy beach - it must be glorious in the summer! We enjoyed a good walk, then headed back to the house, where Liam cooked us a meal.
