Remembrance at Hexham General
I started the day making a few calls for Margret.
Nick came to listen to the German messages on her phone. We tried to return the calls but there were no answers.
Then I went to spend time with Margret. She looked much better than last night and was sitting on a bedside chair. Between us, we removed the hospital gown and she tried on her new, warm nightie. It fitted!
The physios came to assess her. They would not let me be in for the questions but allowed me to be there later when they tried standing her.
She still needs two people and a frame to prevent her from falling, but it is still early days.
The physio showed me a simple way to put light pressure on Margret’s upper arm that allows the hand to function better. It is like magic.
I sat beside her and did this throughout her lunch and she ate every bit and enjoyed it.
The nurses don’t have anyone who can do this.
I also noticed that her coffee was brought and placed beside her right hand. I was able to move it, but a spill could have happened if she was alone.
I do feel that there could be some attention to detail.
Margret had to ask to be washed. Some stroke patients won’t know to do that.
I met Liz in my favourite Italian restaurant for lunch. I had Bruschetta. It was hilarious because the knives would not cut through it. My teeth did but it made the whole procedure very messy. Delicious, so I forgive them.
Liz went on to see Margret and I came home via a visit to Jenny and Dennis.
I tried to phone 5 different people for Margret but only one replied!
Time to relax now.
I won’t mention how I felt when I turned on the radio at 0730 this morning.
