Liberation Route
Out on the bikes today following a trail called the Liberation Route - taking in various landmarks from the British and Allied Forces battles to liberate Holland from the German occupation. This was along the Rhine focussed on the bridges of Operation Market Garden. It took us to the Airborne museum where we had a much needed tea break, as a side trip to the Airborne Cemetery at Oosterbeek, with 1700 graves of allied forces soldiers killed in the battles to liberate Arnhem in 1944/5. It is of course a very sad and somber places but also very peaceful. Too many lost.
