AI and Older People

Attended a webinar this morning on AI and older people organised by the U3A. (University of the Third Age).
The aim was to demystify it and remove some of the fear and alarm felt by so many people of my generation.

Do we regard AI as a friend or foe? 

“ It is just a tool,” the first speaker pointed out.
“Take a car and a gun. Both have the potential to kill you. It’s how you use them.”

That was the message that came through loud and clear.
One big surprise though was the absence of any U3A AI groups north of the border. But a look at the Scottish educational system revealed that the schools were way ahead of the English system in introducing AI into the school curriculum.
If you have not already dipped your toes in and tried ChatGPT then the advice is- give it a go. You will be very pleasantly surprised.
