David polishes it all off!
Last evening went well and everyone was very jolly. (Maybe something to do with the number of empty bottles?). All I had to do with provide the food which was much appreciated, and sit back and let them all get on with it.
Today we went to Long Friday near West Jesmond metro to meet the daughters for lunch. Carole was their English teacher 30 plus years ago so they had a lot of chatting about old times. Like how mean Liz Lochead was to some of them when she came to do a poetry workshop and the total contrast - how lovely Jackie Kay was. Carole and I took her to the pub afterwards. She’s not only talented she’s a beautiful person too. All this chat meant David and Mr C could have a conversation with interruptions. They get on well despite David being almost 30 years younger, (fact the same age as our son-in-law) sharing interests in politics and history It was funny when we got on the metro to take them to the station a young man got up and offered David his seat.
The daughters had to get off to collect kids from football, basketball and drama. Mr C and I had to pick up currency for our trip at the end of the month, and pop into Trailfinders to make alterations to another trip. Well cut out one city to save money as I’ve already been and Mr C isn’t interested.
We are looking forward to a quiet night slonked in front of TV. It was lovely to have them to stay but Carole is an enthusiastic talker (and interruptor!) which is quite tiring.
Here’s David with his giant bit of meat. The daughters and I shared much more colourful and tasty small plates - kale, pear and beetroot, radicchio, fig and burrata, and polenta with variety of mushrooms.
