Act of Remembrance

A quiet day today, starting with watching online the Act of Remembrance at our church. All the uniformed organisations were present, and a wreath was laid at our war memorial section underneath the organ pipes by one of the sea scout leaders, who himself served in the Royal Navy for a number of years. The flag-bearers formed a line down the centre aisle of the church, with the two Union flag holders facing each other across the chancel steps. After the Vicar’s prayers, these two flags were lowered towards each other in respect for the fallen, and the plaintiff sound of a bugle floated across the congregation from the back of church. I couldn’t hold back the tears as the two minutes’ silence began.

Tonight we are going to watch last night’s recording of the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall because we couldn’t watch it live last night. As always, I will have a box of tissues beside me. It’s so important to me that we should never,

ever,

forget …
