All The World's A Stage

We took a train trip to Vicenza, about an hour from Verona.   It was dry when we left Verona but the forecast was 100% chance of rain.  It was drizzly when we arrived but it soon turned to heavy rain, 100%.

We bought a ticket for the Teatro Olimpico, which I assumed was an amphitheatre, a sports stadium. I couldn't have been more wrong.  It's a theatre designed and built by Andrea Palladio between 1580-1585.  It is built amphitheatre style but indoors.  I've never seen a theatre like it in my life.  I watched people coming in, as we had done, and saw the reactions.

The image here doesn't do it justice but it's all I have.

After this, we headed to the Vicenza museum across the road (dry) and then on to Palladio's basilica ( not a church surprisingly).  The streets and squares were full of chocolate artisans, Vicenza's chocolate festival.  I felt bad for them battling against the rain.

We had lunch and then headed for the cathedral but it was closed.  We wandered the streets, no longer in the rain, and went into a lovely church and it's cloisters.   We took the train back around teatime.
