Hot Canary and a Blue whale.
A becalmed countryside in the season of Mists and mellow fruitfulness. Inspiring to the soul and senses, the landscape hasn’t changed much over the centuries other than the clearing of forests. The subsoil here contains large amounts of clay, hence very wet which is the reason why the cattle have now been taken indoors. Dippy and I don’t leave much of an impression on the surface but the beautiful surroundings most certainly do in me , especially on Sunday mornings when in general most vehicles are parked up and not interfering with the sounds of nature waking up.
The West Country has long been a place where authors, artists and the musically talented have gained their inspiration for their work. Having been slowed down for several reasons recently I totally get the reason why.
Dippy and I paused by the two seats adjacent to the exit from the woods and simply listened to nature’s morning alarm clock. Blackbirds rooks woodpeckers nuthatches long tailed tits meadow pipits pheasants Goldfinches fieldfairs and Redwings mistle thrushes Robin and jays.
Badgers are prolific here as are foxes and everything in their food cycle.
Vivienne sauntered along with Maisie nose to the ground heading off on the many pheasant trails. We sat for a short while before heading back up to our separate residences.
I lit my little Calor gas oven in preparation for some apple tartlets, I’d prepared the filling previously and so I simply had to pop it into the pastry which I had bought pre made and ready to go:)
Other than a few Carboniferous edges the results were well received by those that I was able to test them on:)
Next in my agenda was the craft fair in Barnstaple pannier market to collect the Blue Whale that I had pre ordered.(extra)
The talented craftworkers put on some remarkable exhibits and were supported by the usual retail food hospitality feeding those who had plenty of money to spend.
I’m getting to know quite a few of the exhibitors who travel around here in North Devon to some interesting venues.
Blue Whale collected Dippy and I drove the short distance to Instow to mingle with the plethora of other dogs and their owners.several hours later with Dippy suitably fatigued we headed back for a supper of mussels for starters and lamb hotpot as main followed up with Apple tart and cream of course!
More reading and some spiritual research before eyes closed naturally.
