On tour

I was late leaving to meet PY, P&W at Outernet. Outernet claims to be the most visited cultural attraction in the UK. There are a lot of very bright screens just next to Tottenham Court Road station, but I didn't know it hid a 2000-capacity underground venue until I arrived late for Eurovision on Tour. The others had rightly given up waiting for me but let security know I'd be coming later. The venue is impressive, with a long bar along the back. The mezzanine level was not in use, but it would give some people an even better view of the stage area (I assume the stage area can be adjusted for other events).

Eurovision on Tour features Eurovision performers from previous years singing their songs and smattering other well-known Eurovision hits. It started in Madrid, then in Stockholm, Paris and here in London tonight. Next is Poland, then three Australian nights, and back to Amsterdam in January. Artists included Carola, Sweden's 1991 winner and Linda Martin, Ireland's 1992 winner. Senhit, who represented San Marino in 2011 & 2020 & 2021, was also part of the lineup. There were many more. I didn't recall many of the names and not all of the songs, but they put on a good show, and it was a lot of fun. The screen behind the live-action is very impressive.

The information we'd been provided with suggested that the event finished before 9:30pm, so we booked a post-show dinner for then. When it was clear we'd not make that time, we pushed the reservation to 10pm. The show was still going then, but we decided to head to The Old Compton Brasserie and missed the show's end, which included the UK's 2000 Eurovision entry, Nicki French. That was a shame.

The meal was lovely, mainly because the service was fab. It was my second 'smash burger' in a week. I didn't know what they were this time last week.
