Don’t You Feel Small

Bit of a size contrast in what I’ve been playing today, albeit they are both guitar shaped instruments with four strings. Started with my (very) familiar bass, just running through a few things that might be being performed in public later this year. No problem, it all came flooding back.
But the ukulele proved to be more troublesome than I thought it would be. There’s a scene in the Panto where my character is supposed to be practising on a uke. Rather than just make a noise I thought I’d actually try and learn something, so borrowed this instrument from the props store and brought it home. Cleaned it up and tuned it, then went looking for some chord charts. Sadly, they bear no resemblance whatsoever to guitar chords, so definitely a case of starting from scratch. But, after thirty minutes of messing about, I did manage to make a passable attempt at playing something that resembled a tune. Good enough for a throwaway scene in a Panto anyway.
At the end of the day, the scene - or that part of it anyway - will probably get cut, but my feeble attempts at trying to produce a recognisable tune certainly helped while away the afternoon!
But, my God, it’s a very small instrument to try and play. Even more so when you pick it up straight after a P Bass!
