Blockage!

I came back from the school run this morning to find my way home blocked.  Two police vans and two cars had just arrived and stopped.  From them came 8 police officers in full riot gear (helmets, shields, the works) and 4 officers in more usual uniform.  They disappeared round the corner and went into a house there.  They had evidently stopped here to remain out of sight of the property they were "visiting", and maintain an element of surprise.  Either they were operating at speed and didn't pay any attention to parking, or deliberately blocked the road to stop anyone getting out (it's a dead end past this point).

Eventually some of them came out to move the vehicles.  I always think of this as a quiet road, but during the 20 minutes it was blocked about 6 cars accumulated waiting to get out, and 4 waiting to get in.

I wonder what on earth they were after?  There didn't appear to be armed officers present, but with that many officers in riot gear I presume it was something serious enough that they felt the need to prepare to counter a pretty hostile response...

That is about the sum total of my excitement for today.  I'm full of the cold again now so just plodding through work at home, struggling a bit to concentrate.
