A View From The Bench
When Sophie was getting ready for school she started asking me about a photo of my Mum and Dad which sits with other family photos in the living room. They both passed away long before she was born and although she knows who they are she’s never really asked about them before. While I was telling her a bit about them, I worked out when the photo was taken my Dad was the same age as I am now. The odd coincidence about her sudden interest was that my Dad was actually born 113 years ago today.
We were going to come straight home after we dropped Sophie at school this morning but, while we were waiting for the school gates to be opened, there was a tempting smell of cooking bacon emanating from the nearby building where their pre-school breakfast club is held.
It turned out that we’re too old to get into breakfast club so, as it was such a lovely crisp morning, we headed to Avalon Marshes cafe for a bacon and egg bap and a walk by the lakes where I took this view from one of the benches scattered around.
This afternoon I had a a home visit from a physio who had been recommended to me to assess my painful shoulder as the waiting list to see the NHS physio is 18 weeks.
She was very thorough in her assessment and confirmed that the problem is a rotator cuff impingement, explained all the anatomy behind it and took me through a range of exercises to help strengthen the affected muscles and tendons, which she will follow up by sending me links to relevant videos, etc. and a follow up appointment if I feel it’s necessary. Apparently these things can take a while to improve.
