Another largely bright day, but colder than last week. I did the rest of the ironing and tidied up this morning, then wrote some more stuff on my growing collection of lists.
Walked down to town and passed by two plaques I hadn’t noticed before but which relate to the book I listened to recently by Ambrose Parry, The Way of all Flesh. The first was on the side of the Balmoral hotel, apparently on the site of the pharmacy where chloroform was first made and which in the book the servants spent a lot of time going to collect various experimental potions until chloroform was finally made, the second was on Sir James Young Simpson’s house on Queen St where the book was mainly set and where he first tried out chloroform on himself and  his friends and apprentices.
Chatted to JW about internal dialogues, motivation and judgement before going to St Andrew’s Sq past all the Christmas preparations on George St and in the Square for a Development Committee meeting.
Walked up home and I have to admit I had a brief snooze as I’d woken at 5am this morning and was fading. Heard from V…good news is that she hasn’t torn her knee ligament so just has to rest the leg and keep using a crutch for a while longer but can take the huge leg brace off and can weight bear a little which will make moving around and showering etc a bit easier! Thank goodness no surgery was needed or our Vietnam trip would have been in jeopardy.
Made smoked haddock, mash and leeks in cheese sauce for supper…one of my favourites…then headed off into the dark to choir. It’s a lovely little church that we meet in in the middle of nowhere and everyone is very friendly and forgiving about getting the songs right, and we managed to get three of them polished up (a bit!) before the drive home, and decided to stay up to watch tonight’s episode of Shetland before bed.
