Exploring

Yesterday, as I headed out to meet a friend, I noticed some activity with cars. This morning, I went to find out what was going on.

It's the Rally Madeira Legend 2024, three days of  events and challenges. I googled it, and then found out a bit more from a Northern Ireland competitor.

I’ve Googled it again and apparently the Irish family are among the big names taking part. Frank Kelly drives “Baby Blue”, a Ford Escort Mark II, and his daughter Lauren is the navigator. His wife was wonderfully helpful. 

They will introduce the participants on Friday evening. There will be a series of challenges on Saturday, most way out of Funchal, high up in the mountains. And then it all finishes on Sunday, with further challenges and a parade.  I think there's more information on Google.

When I'm here an my own, I go exploring and check things out. A few years ago I went in on the 29 bus to look for an amazing restaurant I found years ago which several of my friends also loved. It had vanished, but there was another place that had amazing reviews. That day it was closed.

High, high up beyond the Botanical Gardens, I got to the Restaurant Alta Vista. The views are breathtaking ,(extra). 

I had some wonderful octopus (and a Brisa Maracuja) before catching the 29 bus back.

An adventure. Yes. An interesting new place.
