The last time . ..

. . . I used a HUD it was landing off my last sortie in a Tornado – a long time ago.

My newly acquired car has one, although the information displayed is quite limited.  I was disappointed that it didn't have speed limit display, but I suppose I'll have to continue looking for signs and being aware :-)
