Calm Balm Camber
I was back in action (or should that be there was action in my back!) today as I was finally able to put one foot in front of the other with only a minimum amount of pain - I even managed a slow, hesitant and occasionally halting early morning run.
A hot soak in the bath was required afterwards but with my mobility almost restored, and as blue skies and sunshine had been forecast, we thought we should head for a restorative, in mind and body, trip back to the coast and decided on Camber Sands in East Sussex.
Once we had arrived it was almost lunchtime and we settled on frequenting the nearest cafe for a cool pint and a portion of chips each looking out across the wide sweep of the sandy beach and to the sea beyond. It felt utterly glorious to be there, especially after the last few days.
I took my first two shots from the verandah of the cafe - the first extra of the off kilter ice cream cones against the stunningly blue sky and the second extra of walkers and horse riders as they traversed the beach in the glittering light.
Our pints and chips consumed we then set out on a walk along the beach itself breathing in all that fabulous sea air. My main image is of me and my brother (me taking this shot and my brother reviewing the images he had just taken on the monitor on the back of his camera) reflected in the glass frontage of one of the frankly rather over the top dwellings that now dominate the far end of the beach, which are gradually displacing and replacing the much more modest houses that once stood there. We then tuned back and took one last sun kissed stroll along the shoreline before heading home.
It really was wonderful to be back by the sea again. It always makes us feel calmer and happier and really is balm for the soul!
