2024 Thursday — Trail Marker Day
Twelve years ago today was a Wednesday; Mr. Fun & I signed the paperwork that day that funded the transaction that put our names on the Deed to this little Central Coast shack. The transaction was scheduled to happen on the 16th, not the 14th. But our real estate agent said all papers had been signed and the money was ready to be transferred from our account to the sellers. All we had to do was say "Yes."
I had duties at the college that day and we were 4-hours from the Central Coast, but our real estate agent made it happen. It was in the Top Ten of scariest things we’ve ever done.
The economy was wobbly but that had put real estate in the basement. So the timing to make a scary decision was good. We had no idea if we could do this; we'd never done this (bought a vacation/retirement home); but we were doing it!
We were the people that as young marrieds used to count the slices in our loaf of Wonder Bread so we could make sure the bread would last till payday.
We had been saying, "Ready! Aim!" for a year. That day we pulled the trigger. Today we're celebrating; we're not bragging. Because really, we're still pinching ourselves; we're still whispering "I can't believe we're here." No one is more surprised than we are. And the One who is not surprised at all is God.
We were just simple enough to believe He could do this if we asked; so we asked. Any minute now the Celebration Band is going to march down our street. The baton team will have sparkly sequined outfits and they'll toss those batons 20 feet in the air, higher than our roof. The sign carriers will have white polished boots with tassels. Right behind them will be the band with their tall hats and shiny instruments. I'm not sure what song they'll play; maybe you know. I'll have to let that be a surprise. I'm sure they'll wake Mr. Fun from his nap. I'm going to stop writing now so I can get a front row seat.
Oh, and the sign the carriers are carrying at the front of the parade, it says, "Thank You God!"
Good night from
California’s Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
