2024 Friday — Telling the History
This is a continuation from yesterday's post -- and these photos are the “old” house:
Twelve years ago today, on Thursday 11/15/2012, when I completed teaching my classes at the college about noon, I headed home so we could drive 4-hours north to the town of Cayucos on California's Central Coast to meet our real estate agent at the little beach shack that had officially become ours the day before because all the monies were exchanged and escrow closed. Whew!
Just after dark and with rain sprinkling (it sprinkled rain here today), the real estate agent gave Mr. Fun & me the keys, a few trinket gifts, hugged us goodbye, and was gone. AND the little shack was ours!
The only furniture was an air mattress we had brought with us. Within moments we realized half the house lights would not work (the next morning we realized a circuit breaker was tripped, so it was an easy fix). The photos we captured back then and the crazy fun memories of the first night and the first week are now like pieces of leftover confetti that help us celebrate all over again.
No one in our family knew about our purchase and neither did any of our friends. Approximately six people knew we were purchasing a place on the coast: our insurance agent, Les & his wife, Jody; our Retirement Financial Advisor, Jack & his wife Colleen; and an Elder-leader from our church, Al & his wife June, and our three pups!
So twelve years ago, we stayed for a little over a week to enjoy my birthday, our first Thanksgiving holiday in Cayucos, and a few November days at the little gray shack that we now affectionately call "Hank's House," (and that's another story). So, maybe one more chapter another day to explain the name, the lavender paint choice, and some of the extraordinary renovation.

Good night,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
