Rusula
A friend had told me that there were saffron milk caps up at the col so I went out for a walk this morning to explore. I found a lot of these mushrooms which are very similar but do not bleed in the same way as the milk caps. The pharmacist confirmed that they were indeed russula mushrooms. He said they were not edible, but in fact, my research online showed that most of these mushrooms are edible although most are not worth it in terms of taste. There is one variety that will make you sick but none are deadly. I did the nibble test. If a tiny bit on the tongue tastes like a mushroom, then it is edible. If it is hot and peppery best to spit it out. I confirmed these were ok but still did not eat them as I did not think they were particularly tasty. Anyway, I still have a penny bun mushroom in the fridge for tea which I bought at the market.
