Greylag geese
We left home early this morning to drive to Norfolk. It took longer than usual as we went via Cambridge to drop off some things Tommy needs at Inca's house, as next weekend Tommy has a university rugby alumni dinner in Cambridge.
When we arrived in Norfolk, Gavin started working and I took Xena for a long walk from the house up to Barrow Common. She had such an exciting walk as it was all new smells for her. She managed to flush out two pheasants in the woods, and chase a muntjac for a short while. For Xena it's all about the chase but she gives up very quickly and would never harm another creature, she lacks that killer instinct for which I am grateful.
When I got back to the house we had lunch and then I went off to the RSPB Titchwell Marsh which is nearby, as Gavin was busy working all day. It was another horribly grey day and the light was poor, but I managed to get photos of many waders on the water - Mallards, Gadwell, Teal, Lapwings, Shovellers and many other species. At this time of year there are also many geese around as there are some visitors from the north like Pink Footed geese. I stood on the pathway between the marshes and the lakes and practiced taking photos of the geese as they flew from feeding in the marshes to the water and back again, using different shutter speeds and different focusing modes. I identified Greylag geese, Pink footed geese, Barnacle geese and Brent geese. In this image these are Greylag geese - I think, as they are so similar to Pink Footed geese? The extra is of a beautiful Teal in flight. I eventually got so cold I could not feel my hands anymore so went home.
We will enjoy a quite night at home watching TV after supper tonight, bliss!
