Another new mural
Wallace, who despite his accent, was born in Bristol, has spray painted “Totterdown” in Totterdown. Gromit is down the other end, but Shaun the Sheep is hidden behind the mad-eyed postbox which I have blipped before. I’ll get him another day. I’m sorry it’s not a great view, but I could only get this because one car moved and there was briefly a space. Otherwise it’s pretty much hidden, sadly. In Bristol people have responded to the environmental crisis by buying more and more, bigger and bigger cars:-(
In the afternoon I went to an eye health test - good news, my retina is ok - and I don’t need new glasses. Bad news - despite being unable to drive at night - because the cataract in my left eye means I cannot see at all when there are bright oncoming headlights, isn’t bad enough to be operated on. He then projected a car number plate on the wall with numbers about 6 inches high, and said the threshold is if you can’t read that. It doesn’t seem a good idea to have thousands of people driving effectively blind while they are waiting. He then said he would refer me to have it done privately. I’m a bit dubious, I think I want to ask another optician about this.
In the evening the Orkney film club watched ‘After the long rains’ on BFI streaming. About childhood, hopes and dreams, opportunities and lack of, society gradually changing and rejecting some traditions. Set in a village by the sea in Kenya - absolutely beautiful to look at, as well as a fine story and good acting. Recommended.
