Such contrasts
It was raining a little when I went out for my swim (well, raining a lot actually) but I never mind a drop of rain.
Then I heard thunder and saw lightning over Reid’s,
I’m a wimp. And also sensible. So I got out and splashed across the grass back to my room.
It was still raining when I went out. I cut through the Savoy Palace, the enormous and fashionable hotel next to us. It’s owned by the same company as our Royal Savoy but it’s very different. The architecture is much more opulent and clearly aimed at the Dubai and footballer's wives market.
Some of it I love. Less so other aspects.
I caught the bus down to the town as it was still very wet but when it cleared a bit, I headed to the Rally Madeira Legend tent. They were showing a live feed of the events high up in the mountains and interviewing the drivers (extra). Francis Kelly, whose wife had been so helpful on Thursday, is driving his Ford “Baby Blue” and said that it was extremely slippery on the roads with all the rain. He seems to be in 4th place.
I tried out an amazing restaurant that specialises in Asian food. Thai, Maldives, Indonesia…..it’s excellent.
Warm and sunny now, I’m back in my hotel, having completed my swim, and watching the rally live feed on my phone…….…
Nothing if not varied.
