First extra is a 1984 picture of the storm force waves we get here. To counteract the damage this causes, a programme of building up the shingle bank was brought in. Some of my previous blips feature the "shingle shifters".
I have added an extra of Martha Gunn, who was a "dipper" in the village of Brighthelmstone at the time when sea bathing became popular because of its health-giving properties (not so much now unfortunately). She helped the place become the popular resort Brighton became.
