Freiburg
A great first day of my weekend trip. The train from Mainz to here (Freiburg is in the southwestern corner of Germany) was on time and not too crowded, despite a big football match (Germany vs Bosnia-Herzegovina) being played here tonight.
I arrived in thick fog, but just when my friend A and I went into town, the sun came through. We saw a little photo exhibition about the bombing of Freiburg in November 1944, when the entire city centre was flattened, about 2,800 people died, but the cathedral suffered only minor damage. See extra.
A‘s husband R had baked an apple cake for us, so we returned home for coffee and cake, and later went out again for drinks and dinner. I don‘t feel like I walked a lot today, but my watch has registered some 13,000 steps.
