Meeting Matisse
This morning, A and I got up early and drove to Basel, or rather Riehen - a suburb known mostly for the exceptional art gallery Fondation Beyeler. The visit to its Henri Matisse exhibition was my birthday gift to A, and it was a gift to myself, too. We had a great time there, learned a lot about the artist and his life, and congratulated ourselves for our timing - when we left, the gallery became very crowded, and people had to queue in front of every picture.
I am adding some impressions of the exhibition and the gallery and its surroundings in the extra.
Later, I had a much more common travel experience than yesterday’s smooth journey. Trains were packed, delayed, and understaffed (no information, no food, no drinks). I missed a connection, had to change to a grubby local train, and arrived home an hour later than planned. But still happy about a wonderful weekend.
