Prestatyn Parkrun

SATURDAY

I decided a change of scenery was in order, so under bright skies, I set off for the Nova Parkrun. However, by the time I arrived in Prestatyn, the heavens had opened, and with a high tide lapping the edges of the promenade, it shaped up to be a very wet 5k.

The event was busier than usual for an out of season Saturday thanks to a good turnout from the St Asaph City Striders. The club’s "Stride to 5K" programme had reached its finale, bringing along a few dozen runners to complete the challenge.

Pictured above is Striders' club stalwart Bob Neale who is in his seventies, giving an encouraging push to some of the younger participants as they approached the finishing funnel.

Between the rain and a headwind on the long slog up the promenade, it wasn’t my strongest time. I came in 67th out of a field of 224 parkrunners, with a time of 28:51.

The weather turned brighter later in the day, so I made the most of it—washing the cars and enjoying a short walk around the village.
