The accidental finding

However, the other car dealership that closed recently, not far from where I live, has been turned into a large charity shop that also sells furniture. It's been kitted out well inside. I'd like it if they had tea and coffee there too!

A quiet but pleasant day. All of the advent calendars and most of my former Christmas stock is now dispersed, and I bought a 6ft tree for the boys, as I was round at their flat and the tiny one I gave S last year is just way too small for their high ceilings. Then I bought coloured baubles from a charity shop. Nowadays, so many are just red, gold or silver. Of course it's far too early but they can put it all up when they want.

I also explained the Christmas story to E, who is Muslim and had never heard  it. He looked at the advent calendars, which were nativity scenes. And asked why there were so many animals, and camels too. Ok, from the beginning...I wanted to buy a little book from a charity shop, something written quite simply, but there were only books about elves and reindeer. When we were at pre-school, my sister K .and I and all the kids wrote out our understanding of the Christmas story, and there were made into pamphlets for our parents. K's version included the immortal phrase 'Mary travled on a doncee'.

Oh, litl doncee, I think of you every year, as the roads grow long and dusty. Maybe even snowy in the UK?
