Sky Dancing With the Full Beaver Moon
First, let's start with a few fun moon quotes:
"The sun and the moon sometimes argue over who will tuck me in at night. If you think I am having more fun than anyone on this planet, you are absolutely correct!" - Hafiz.
"Yours is the light by which my spirit's born: - you are my sun, my moon, and all my stars." - E.E. Cummings.
The Beaver Moon waxed full late afternoon on Friday, but it was overcast here and we did not even catch a glimpse of its light. It made up for it on this night, putting on quite a show, dancing through the clouds in the sky.
At the point where celestial things were getting really interesting, I went outside for 10 to 15 minutes, pulled up a yard chair, got out my monopod, and took more than 100 shots of the moon and clouds.
Here is one of my favorites. Let me tell you why. The clouds were dark and heavy, and they were coming at the moon full-force. Now, any other celestial body might have been daunted by this sort of thing. But no, not our moon!
The photo suggests that the clouds were fast-moving, maybe like a dark wind blowing. But look at the face of the moon. The moon is strong, and good, and full of light. It is still smiling! If I could hear its silvery voice from here, I am betting that it would say: "Bring it on!!!"
You see, the moon is strong enough for this, and the dark and windy sky is its element. It thrives amid the clouds; they can't hurt it. Take heart. Keep the faith. Its light is out there, still shining, still dancing, even when you cannot see it!
Our soundtrack song is Thin Lizzy, with Dancing in the Moonlight.
P.S. I came across a wonderful story on the Internet written by Elizabeth Gilbert. It's about a bus driver, and crabby city people, and worries, and hope. Here's a paragraph from it; the full piece is available here:
"No matter who you are, or where you are, or how mundane or tough your situation may seem, I believe you can illuminate your world. In fact, I believe this is the only way the world will ever be illuminated, one bright act of grace at a time, all the way to the river."
