Balloons glow in the
desert at night...I am so
delighted to watch

~carliewired

To complete my day yesterday, I took myself downtown to the Ray Kroc Stadium to watch the "Desert Glow". It is the cherry on the top of the Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival each year - and this is the 34th.

My cranky feet had to walk a long way from where I was parked and into the stadium. The crowd was a considerable size so I had to navigate around people of all ages in the dark. We are asked to donate non-perishable food items and pay 5 dollars each at the gate. The smell from the concession stands was tantalizing - hot dogs, cotton candy, kettle corn....

I found a seat in the stands, then wandered the field. The announcer would direct the balloonists to flare the jets on the tethered balloons on the field. I managed to get a few shots that I like.

When the balloons were directed to come down to be replaced by a drone display, I took my leave. I caught something of the drones in the air as I was driving down Avenue A heading for home. Drones with lights in aerial patterns are not my 'thing'. Neither is the fireworks that was to follow.

I'm home today with my feet up. I may go in search of some purple cottons at the quilt store in the outdoor marketplace.
