Robber's Bridge
The day started with some promise but by the time we got onto Exmoor it was damp. We stopped off at Robber's Bridge an old masonry arch bridge in the royal forest of Exmoor. There is some repair on the bridge due to a crash there some time back, repaired but imho not too well.
The bridge takes its name from the fact that much of this area was dangerous bandit country in past centuries. RD Blackmore set Lorna Doone in this area, using a lot of the legends, in the book.
The autumn colours are magnificent this year.
We popped up onto the moor after we'd taken a few shots and found some damp ponies, (extra) but it started to rain heavily again, so we turned around, drove back through the Lorna Doone Valley, found a pub that was open and had a coffee followed by a delicious roast dinner! What a treat especially as it was all unplanned.
Another grand day out!
