Swirling

My delayed weekend plans could finally start in earnest. I was meeting Jackie, tagging on a Zanzibar visit to her work trip to Tanzania, along with her boyfriend François.

I went very early to the ferry terminal in Dar es Salaam in a taxi that appeared to have its entire undercarriage hanging and dragging on the road beneath. On the ferry it was musical seats due to rain showers. There is usually warning of an impending soaking because as the boat cuts through the surf the swirling clouds of grey mist are very evident up ahead. A rainbow was a nice touch to the journey.

On Zanzibar I caught a lift across the island to Jambiani. The traffic police were harassing motorists on the way, and we were flagged down several times in a journey of one hour. Solo drivers were really getting hustled but when the police clocked another passenger in the car, we were more quickly waved on. All the harder to exert pressure.

Finally on the beach in Jambiani, we enjoyed delightful company, beer and music for most of the afternoon and evening.
