Not Often Seen
I missed my chance to take a picture of something that is not actually in my house when we were driving to Kathy's this morning because I grabbed John's phone instead of mine. We drove home a different way...slower but more scenic. The weather was, and still is, frigid and sunny with a brisk wind blowing straight from the Arctic.
These items of cutlery live in the top drawer of our sideboard along with all the family silver inherited from my mother and my grandmother. I don't use it much and rarely open the drawer. I once got as far as getting some silver polish but the impulse to use it died. They are elegantly engraved with my grandmother's initials, AMcDV...Alice McDowell Venable. I don't know what their intended use is, but i've occasionally used them for dessert. My mother once idly wondered what the little figure on the handle was doing and my brother, who must have been quite small at the time, said, 'He's making a bouillabaisse'. He doesn't seem very suitably attired for that, or anything else for that matter....
I have now assembled my coat pattern and turned my attention to finding the instructions for making it. After some sleuthing, it develops that it is a separate download of another 26 pages! and I still have to design the quilting, as making the actual quilted pieces isn't part of the
pattern.
The guys came and finished our new hog wire fence and we hung the stars that were on the old 'white wall' on it. By the time we hung them temporarily with Christmas ornament hooks our hands were frozen and we retreated into the house to warm up. We're being promised an 'atmospheric river' in the next couple of days. If it actually develops, it will mean the official beginning of the winter rainy season and an end to fire season....
