Day 2 of the trip - still in the Mindo Cloud Fores

The main shows a pair of competing buff tailed coronet hummers, while the extra shows a Turquoise Jay sipping water from a Bromeliad.

Last night’s guided walk through the cloud forest was fascinating. The guides showed us many different frogs, all of them tiny. They ranged from the Pinocchio Frogs through Glass Frogs and Tree Frogs. There were worms that were nearly a meter long and many different species of insect including cicadas.

Up at 6am this morning I was treated to the most spectacular bird activity I’ve ever seen with easily 50 different species spotted in less than an hour. That first hour after dawn is well worth getting up for.

After a morning spent in the forest we had a late lunch before returning to Quito for the night. I say “night” but I’m up at 4am as I’m flying out ether Galapagos first thing. I’m going to be on a small boat for the next 2 weeks with unknown internet access and so I’m not sure when I’m next going to be able to Blip - I may have to backblip, we shall see.
