The culprit
This afternoon, father in law had a hospital appointment in Stockport. As Stepping Hill Hospital are farming out their Opthalmology appointments to a clinic in Hazel Grove, we didn't have to struggle parking as the location was much quieter.
Also thankfully, Mum knew where it was as she took my Aunt there last month. So when after the appointment the car wouldn't come alive, apart that is from displaying lots of warning lights, when I called her to say "Hellllllllp!!!" she knew where to pick us all up!
The car is an electric Nissan Leaf and in December will be 9 years old. Whilst not over the moon about being stranded in a cold dark carpark, I knew the 12 volt battery wasn't in the best of health & was confident that it was the culprit. Am also pretty impressed that said battery has lasted so long because they often don't.* Anyway, as a car accessory chain store was open until 8pm, a replacement could be purchased and we returned to fit it & drive the car back home. Hopefully it'll now be fine for a good few years to come.
* The main battery - the one that Top Gear said would need replacing every two years - is pretty much okay. That one is a big too big to replace in a carpark!
