Who is boss?

I love watching the Blackbirds as I am in the kitchen washing up. We have had a couple of them eating apples for a few weeks now but, as soon as temperatures drop, more arrive to feed. Then it gets a bit scrappy as there is an attempt to chase them off. Funnily enough it is this female who is the most belligerent at the moment. She squawks at incomers - but it is the male who is put on guard. 

Of course it is all a bit pointless as there are plenty of places to hide in the grass and shrubs, where apples can be enjoyed in peace, out of sight of the quarrelling.
