Measuring trees
My Green week activity today was finding out how to calculate the amount of carbon stored by trees. We had to use a clinometer to work out the height of the tree . You stand away from the trees until you can see a 45 degree angle through the viewfinder. You then measure the distance between where you are standing and the Base of the tree. You then add on your height to estimate the tree's total height. If you then measure the trunk circumference you can use an app to work out the carbon sequestration per year. One of the large trees in the quad was storing only enough carbon a year to offset a single drive of 150 miles. It was eye opening. It was very cold and I was glad to return to the warm and deliver another training course.
Stayed late to finish another presentation for tomorrow.
