Wabi sabi

In Japan earlier this year I was introduced to the concept of wabi sabi, which one writer describes as the appreciation of the transient beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete in the physical world. I thought of it this morning, as I photographed the gnarled bark of an old tree in our village garden.
