Turbulence

Bit of turbulence on the way home.

Leaving the metro, we heard some noise, speeches and chanting from Rikilay Square where there were violent protests earlier this summer. As we walked away towards the hotel, we passed many police gathering. Armed and dressed in riot gear.

In one place, police buses were parked at the side of the road while a column of police men and women were lined up on the pavement. At the front of the buses, one police woman was standing with her rapid fire gun at the ready.

On the pavement, passers-by just getting on with their business. It's all been normalised.

As we continued our journey, one lane of traffic had come to a halt. One car had bumped into another (hardly surprising given the volume of traffic) and some men were discussing the situation. Their discussion seemed less than constructive.

Eventually, they started shouting and then fighting. Probably not the cleverest thing to do with bus loads of armed police not far away. But that was their chosen method of resolution.

Stupid.

I thought the turbulence in the water reflected what we had seen at the end of what was otherwise a good day.
