Irrepressible

We're off to Munich on Monday, so when we arrived back from London, this morning, I drove on up to Kirkby Lonsdale, My plan had been to have a leisurely afternoon and evening, packing and just doing a few bits and pieces around the house.

However, Bob contacted me, yesterday, to say that having launched his new pub, St Peter's Tavern, earlier this week, he fancied a night away and would I be around if he came and stayed in Kirkby Lonsdale?

Thus my leisurely afternoon and evening took an entirely different aspect, as we met in the Snooty Fox at half two and then stayed out for the rest of the day, taking in The Orange Tree, The King's Arms, The Sun Inn, and The Royal Hotel, as well as the curry house. (Our attempts to find seats in The Royal Barn were frustrated on the two occasions we tried to get in.)

Twenty years ago, or thereabouts, Bob opened a huge restaurant called Alma de Cuba in a former Catholic Church. It was beautiful, and a great success. I wouldn't pry for details, but I think he did very well when he eventually sold it.

Over the years, the lease has moved from company to company, in a steady decline, as these things do. Then the lease was offered back to Bob, who has spent the last three months refurbishing it into St Peter's Tavern. No wonder he was ready for a break.

We considered our day complete just before eleven, and I was walking back up the hill to home, when I realised I'd not taken a photo... So, here, some irrepressible flowers!
