All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go
The 'bomb cyclone' or 'atmospheric river' or whatever it is seems to have stalled out over Santa Rosa. As of this morning we had had 13" (33cm) of rain in 48 hours, the highest amount of rainfall for that time in recorded history. And it is STILL raining on the third evening. The creek is roaring...we can hear it from our doorstep...and appears to be clogged with downed trees and branches, but staying within its banks. My neighbor Cindy, who lives on the creek says it is ok so far, but 'scary'. I left the front door unlocked and my phone next to the bed last night just in case.
We did go to Trail House for coffee this morning, avoiding our usual route on the two lane road with precarious looking trees on one side and the rising creek on the other. When we got there, we thought it wasn't open, but we were just the first people to get there and had it all to ourselves for awhile. Gail and Bob arrived but Dan and Toby were busy shoring up the chicken coop against the wind. We thought the weather might be letting up and planned to run a few errands, but after picking up a couple of prescriptions, we abandoned the rest for the third day in a row and just came home.
Since one of the abandoned errands was a trip to the fabric store, I'm keeping myself busy making stars that may or may not be part of the coat depending on the availability of the background fabric. If I can't get more of what I'm using, I'll use the ones I've made for a table runner or place mats...or something. John finished clearing out the filing cabinets and found several boxes full of CDs of pictures which he had converted
from slides years ago. Now we no longer have a CD player and are wondering what to do with them. I'm not the only one having trouble keeping up with technology! Technology can't even keep up with itself!
In hopes of the rain letting up, we got Spike suited up for a quick trip down to the bridge to look at the creek. We finally gave up and went in the pouring rain....
61 years ago John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. It is one of those days that anyone who is old enough to remember knows exactly where they were when they heard the news. He was the youngest man ever elected president and the youngest one to die in office after just over a thousand days in office.
How things have changed....
