Happy Phone Day!
Once every two years, a special family event occurs—one that eclipses Christmas and surpasses Halloween. It is spoken of in hushed, reverent tones, and in the months leading up to the grand event, if you listen closely, you can hear the whispered question… when is it Phone Day?
Now is the time. Our family mobile package has clocked up another couple of years, and everyone is due to have their phone upgraded—a time of great excitement and speculation. The ritual typically involves a three-hour family pilgrimage to the EE phone shop in Canterbury High Street, where the wise and attentive mobile wizards and network magicians ply their craft. Coffee and pastries are purchased and consumed as we toil away, and I sign countless contracts with the very blood from my veins. Finally, the work is done, and we are free to depart, with happy boys bearing numerous bags and boxes.
