MONO MONDAY - SOMEONE I CHERISH
“Cherish” - to treat with tenderness and affection; to treasure; nurture, support and encourage; to give physical comfort; to strengthen; to indulge; to protect”.
These are some of the many meanings of the word “cherish”, which is quite an old-fashioned word these days, but for me, having been married now to Mr. HCB for almost 57 years, these words, spoken (by us both) at our Wedding Service in 1968 say everything:
“I, Maureen, take you John, to be my lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.
That’s not to say it has all been “roses” but on the whole, we have tried to live out the vows we made on that day - and of course, there has been lots of “give and take”, on both sides.
I wanted to take a photograph of Mr. HCB and when I told him the theme for the challenge, he didn’t even pull a face - which as many of you know, is quite something!
I took the first shot in my collage at 9.30 this morning when he was out in the garden, complete with his trademark Tilley hat, clearing away leaves, chopping up branches to go in the green bin, moving bricks and doing many other little jobs, ready for Alan, the Fenceman, to come and repair our two fences tomorrow. Many others would have just left things as they were, but not Mr. HCB - such is his kindness and consideration for others, and which he has shown to me all our married life.
I have been out for coffee with a friend this morning and when I got back, having heated up the soup I made yesterday and sat in the conservatory at the table, spotted another photo opportunity when Mr. HCB was sitting in his favourite chair reading - and again, he didn’t murmur!
When I was making the collage, I saw this template, which looks a bit like a jigsaw puzzle and you all know how much he likes doing them - so this had to be it - and it fitted better to have the earlier shot at the bottom.
So - my cherished “someone” and I am BANG ON THEME!
Hope you all stayed safe and we are praying for good weather tomorrow - because Mr. HCB will be out there with Alan, doing “work experience”!
