The Alpine Coaster
Yes, we’ve done it! Ooo and it’s rather good - much of a less sedate and sightseeing sort of thing than I thought - actually quite fast and thrilling for a pair of oldies.
After that excitement I went over the road and strimmed for the greater good to shorten the grass prior to planting out yellow rattle. It’s a partially parasitic plant that grows amongst grass - its roots penetrating the roots of the host and drawing water and nutrients from them, so reducing their vigour and preventing them from out-competing the wildflower species that we’re planting in our lovely flower meadow. Isn’t that clever.
And to think my Dad scoffed at a Botany degree and asked what I’d do with that. Post industrial society is a-coming, daddio! As long as the Chinese keep accumulating a sterling surplus and using it to buy football teams or Kensington real estate or something we’ll be fine. Maybe I should have studied economics.
