Fort Mountain State Park
Sunday
Today we drove to the northern mountainous area of the state, close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, to Fort mountain State Park. Whilst it was past peak colour, there was still plenty of beautiful colour left. We stopped at a couple of view points on the way up in the car, then continued to the top, and took a series of trails leading up to a fire tower, and then continuing to another viewpoint. We then descended to the lake and campground area, and took an easy, but very pretty trail around the lake, with the surrounding trees reflected in the still water. By that time, R and I felt we’d probably done enough for the day, so we headed home.
In the evening, after a very good, but rather spicy Korean dish prepared by the resident chef Jason, we played several rounds of Boggle, and then watched the latest Great British Bake-off.
