Exploring more of the Chattahoochee
Monday
After a grey start, it developed into a very warm day, though with more clouds around. We had breakfast out this morning, then after coffee back at Jen and Jason’s, the three of us went to do some hiking along the Chattahoochee river. We have visited sections of it before, but today we explored a new area, the Vickery Creek area, which included a pedestrian covered bridge at Roswell, a spillway waterfall, and walking through the colourful forest, this area containing numerous beech trees with their golden/bronze coloured leaves. The trail was quite popular in the Roswell area near the river, but when you got further into the forest it was quieter. We didn’t do quite as many steps today - my body seemed to be telling me it needed a break! So having completed our hike and before heading home, we treated ourselves to an ice cream, which we enjoyed sitting outside in the very pleasant sunshine - a high of 72F (22C) temperature. We ‘re making the most of it, since when we return to Ohio on Thursday we will be in for some cold weather!
A good dinner was followed by some first class mince pies fresh from the oven. Then we settled down to watch the excellent and moving film Young Woman and the Sea, which tells the story of the American competitive swimmer Trudy Ederle who became the first woman to swim the English Channel in 1926. She completed the crossing in 14 hours and 31 minutes, beating the world record set by a man by 2 hours!
